Position Overview

The Chief Security Officer (CSO) will report directly to the CEO and be responsible for establishing and maintaining the bank’s security environment. This includes the development, implementation, and management of security strategies and policies to protect the bank’s assets and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive security strategy that safeguards the bank’s assets, including both physical and digital security measures.
  • Oversee the security operations, including the monitoring of security systems and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with security regulations, including federal and local laws, and standards as they relate to banking.
  • Conduct risk assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities and develop actionable plans to mitigate risks.
  • Collaborate with IT, legal, and compliance teams to promote security awareness and to develop security-related policies and procedures.
  • Recruit, train, and manage security personnel to create an effective and efficient security team within the bank.
  • Lead incident response teams and coordinate responses to security breaches and incidents, ensuring proper documentation and reporting.
  • Prepare and deliver security reports to the executive team and board, detailing current security issues and strategies.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging threats, and recommend improvements to security practices and technologies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in security management, criminal justice, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in security management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the banking sector.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of banking security regulations, best practices, and compliance standards.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess complex situations, recommend appropriate action, and make decisions quickly.
  • Proven experience in risk management, incident management, and investigation techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with executives, employees, and external stakeholders.
  • Professional Security certifications (e.g., Certified Information Systems Security Professional – CISSP, Certified Information Security Manager – CISM) are highly desirable.
